The morning on December 14 at 10, “Hong Kou Yuan”: Invitational Exhibition of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art will open at Zhu Qizhan Art Museum. The exhibition reviewing long historical heritage at Hong Kou District and active atmosphere of art and culture at the present age, supported by the charity of museums in Shanghai and private collectors, will display almost a hundred pieces of important works by historical figures and masters in painting and calligraphy.
The exhibition falls into two parts: modern and contemporary era. The modern section will showcase many great masters’ scripts and works, such as Lu Xun, Cai Yuanpei, Li Shutong, Shen Yinmo, Yu Youren, Feng Zikai, as well as scripts and historical documents by many famous professional painters, such as Liu Haisu, Pan Tianshou, Zhu Qizhan, Guan Liang, Yan Wenliang. Some of the works never exposed to the public. All the featured artists had once lived or worked at Hong Kou district. The contemporary section will show around sixty works by contemporary painters and calligraphers, currently living and working at Hong Kou. With rich subject matter and various forms of calligraphy, seal carving, oil painting and print works, the exhibition will present cultural role played by Hongkou district and her influence in the history and at the present. To the audience interested in calligraphy and Chinese painting, this exhibition offers a golden opportunity to travel through history and culture of Shanghai.
